Two prices on one plan

Many NBN plans are advertised at a price that applies for a stated number of months, then an ongoing price. OpenStream records both as the provider's page states them: the ongoing price is the one every ranking on this site uses, and the first-year figure is the introductory months at the introductory price plus the rest of the year at the ongoing price. Nothing else is assumed: a discount with no stated term is treated as the ongoing price.

How to compare

Two plans with the same ongoing price can differ by the length of the introductory period, and a plan with the lowest first-year cost can have a higher ongoing price than the one next to it. The plans table shows the first-year column beside the ongoing price so both orders are visible; the price history pages record each change to either figure with the date it was read, including reads where an introductory price had been taken for the ongoing one and later corrected.

The question to ask

How long will you keep the plan? Over 6 months the introductory price is most of what you pay; over two years the ongoing price is. The switch flow lists both figures for every plan your line can carry.
