What we collect, and what we don't
Last updated 13 October 2026.
What we collect
- Site analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read, and Crazy Egg for heatmaps and anonymised session recordings of how pages are used (form fields are masked). It sets cookies and collects standard usage data (pages, approximate location, device). You can block it with a browser setting or extension; the site works without it.
- Newsletter. If you subscribe, we store your email address, the time, and the page you subscribed from, in our own database. No tracking pixels in emails. Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes the record.
- Switch requests. The request form is switched off; choosing a plan sends you to the provider's own site and we pass nothing on. Requests made while it ran are kept until they are completed or you ask us to delete them. If you use a Switch button and leave your details, we store your name, email, mobile, the provider you named (optional), and the plan you chose, in our own database, and email them to our team so we can follow up on that switch. We do not pass them to the provider; you complete the sign-up on the provider's own site.
- Site visits. For each visit we log the pages viewed, the time, the IP address and the approximate location it maps to, so we can understand how the site is used and spot abuse. Visit logs are not shared or sold.
- API and MCP usage. Requests are rate limited using a short-lived hash of the requesting IP address. Keyed requests are metered against the key. We keep request logs for operational purposes for up to 30 days.
- Address check. If you enter an address, we send it to NBN Co's address service to learn the connection technology (FTTP, FTTN, HFC and so on). The address and technology are kept in your browser, and stored with a switch request or on your account only if you make one. We also keep a record of the address looked up and the technology NBN Co returned, tied to an anonymous session id (not your name) for up to 13 months, so we can see where demand is and match it to switch requests. Email us to have an address record deleted.
- Accounts. If you sign in with Google or create an email-and-password account, we store your name, email address, profile picture (Google only), sign-in method, a one-way hash of your password (never the password), the plan and price you tell us you pay, and your alert settings, in our own database in Sydney. We use them to pre-fill the switch form, show your switch requests, and send price alerts if you turn them on. We send one welcome email when the account is created and security emails you ask for (password resets); we do not send marketing. Every email identifies OpenStream and tells you how to stop further email. You can delete your account from the account page or by emailing us; switch requests already sent to our team are kept so we can complete them.
- Email you send us. Mail to any address at openstream.com.au is stored and forwarded to our team mailbox.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or share personal data with third parties, other than the processors named above (Google Analytics, Amazon Web Services, which hosts the site in Sydney).
- We do not build profiles of visitors or use advertising networks.
- The pricing data on this site is about companies and public offers, not individuals.
Custom GPTs and AI assistants
When an AI assistant (for example a ChatGPT custom GPT or an MCP client) queries OpenStream on your behalf, we receive only the query it sends, not your conversation. The responses are the same public data served to any visitor.
Contact
Questions, corrections or deletion requests: support@openstream.com.au. Rights holders: remove@openstream.com.au.
Insurance health check. The insurance comparison opens after a short health check (from October 2026): who needs cover, where, an age band, current cover and what matters, then first name, last name, email and phone. We store them to tell you about changes to that part of the site, to ask what you found, and we may pass them to an insurer or provider so they can contact you about cover. Email support@openstream.com.au to have them deleted or to opt out of being contacted.
