Overview
Open Australian utility pricing, with its provenance attached.
OpenStream tracks retail pricing across Australian NBN, mobile and energy providers, re-checks it against each provider's own site nightly, and - where a genuine public wholesale reference exists - computes an open margin. The product is the data: an API, an MCP server, and this public citable record.
Counts on this page are one reading of the OpenStream dataset, version 2026-11-08.live, newest read 2026-11-08. Prices are re-read through the day, so a count here and the same count read an hour later can differ; each says what it counts.
What we cover
| Vertical | Wholesale reference | Open margin? |
|---|---|---|
| NBN fixed broadband | nbn_sau_tariff | yes - real |
| Retail electricity & gas | energy_cost_stack | yes - real |
| Mobile & MVNO plans | none published | no - retail only |
Mobile carries no margin field by design: MVNO wholesale deals are private contracts, so any "margin" would be an estimate presented as fact - exactly what this service must never emit.
Five invariants
Enforced in code and tests, not aspirations.
- Never serve an estimated number as fact. Margin only where a public wholesale reference exists.
- Everything served is traceable to source rows and raw snapshots.
- Diff-first: unchanged content short-circuits at the hash; change-sets flow, not re-harvests.
- Config over code: sources, verticals, attributes and tiers are registry records.
- Exposure tiers (public / customer / internal) are a legal boundary, not a feature flag.

check_address · recommend_plans · signup_link · cheapest_electricity · electricity_network · find_plans · cheapest_plan · compare_plans · get_plan · plan_history · plan_changes · lookup_provider · search · fetch
An assistant with this connected can check an address against NBN Co, run the same comparison this site runs, and hand the person a tracked sign-up link.
The public record
Every plan has a permanent, dated, citable page for every day of state, and every change is published as its own delta entry. This is the Wayback-Machine-for-plans layer LLM search engines can cite directly.
