Terms of service
The terms you use OpenStream on
Last updated 23 October 2026. Plain language on purpose: if any of this is unclear, ask us.
What OpenStream is
OpenStream publishes the advertised prices of Australian NBN, electricity and mobile plans, re-read from each provider's own website and from regulator listings, and ranks them on price. It is a free information service. OpenStream is not a telecommunications or energy provider, does not resell any plan, and does not give financial or personal advice. What you see is a comparison of public offers, with the source and the date beside every price.
Prices and accuracy
- Every price is the provider's advertised price at the time we last read it. We re-read every hour (electricity nightly) and show the date each price was last confirmed.
- Providers change prices, promotions and eligibility without telling us, and a page can be misread. A price here can be wrong or out of date. Check the price on the provider's own page before you sign up.
- If you find an error, tell us at corrections and complaints or corrections@openstream.com.au. Corrections are made and recorded openly.
- Estimates, such as a monthly electricity cost for a usage level, are our calculations from published tariffs. They are not quotes.
Signing up with a provider
When you choose a plan, OpenStream sends you to the provider's own website. Any contract you then enter is between you and that provider, on the provider's terms, and the provider is responsible for the service. We pass the provider nothing about you except a reference on the link so the visit can be traced back to OpenStream. We do not see what you sign up for or what you pay.
Referral fees
Some providers pay OpenStream a referral fee when a person who arrived through one of our links signs up. Many do not. Fees never affect how plans are ranked: the order is by price, and a provider cannot pay to move up. Where a link is a referral link, it is marked as one.
Accounts, alerts and email
- You can use OpenStream without an account. If you create one, keep your details accurate and your password to yourself.
- Price alerts and deal emails are sent only to addresses that asked for them, and every message says how to stop further email.
- We may close an account or stop sending alerts where they are being used to abuse the service or other people.
Open data, the API and the MCP server
- The plan dataset we publish through the API is open data under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. You may use it, including commercially, if you credit OpenStream and link to the source.
- The API and the MCP server are provided as they are, with rate limits. We may change, suspend or withdraw either, and may revoke a key that is used in breach of these terms.
- Please do not scrape the site beyond what robots.txt allows, attempt to disrupt it, or probe it for weaknesses. If you find a security problem, tell us at security@openstream.com.au.
Your rights under Australian law
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot be excluded. Apart from those, OpenStream is provided as it is and as available. To the extent the law allows, OpenStream is not liable for loss arising from a price that was wrong or out of date, from a provider's service, or from your reliance on the comparison, and any liability we cannot exclude is limited to resupplying the service.
Privacy
What we collect, and what we do not, is set out on the privacy page. It forms part of these terms.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top is the date of the current version, and continuing to use OpenStream after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and the courts of Victoria have jurisdiction.
