Why the address matters
Retailers publish their plans to the regulators per distribution network, and the rates differ from one network to the next. A plan you hold on one network is a different priced product on another, and some retailers do not publish on every network at all. So a move is a new comparison: the new postcode names the network, and the network names the plans.
The spread within a state

The gap between cheapest and dearest is what choosing badly costs on the new network.
What to do
Put the new postcode into the bill check with the kilowatt-hours from your current bill, or the household size if you have no bill yet; every published plan on the new network is priced on it, cheapest first, and the hand-off goes to the retailer's own page.
Questions this guide answers
Do electricity prices change when I move?
The plans and rates are published per distribution network, so a move to a different network is a different list. Tonight the cheapest at 4,000 kWh is $86 a month on Ausgrid, $84 a month on CitiPower, $94 a month on Energex, $129 a month on SA Power Networks, $78 a month on Evoenergy, $112 a month on TasNetworks, read 8 November 2026.
How do I know which network the new address is on?
The energy postcode pages and the bill check look it up from the postcode.
