Electricity · the bill check

Is your electricity bill too high? Check it against every published plan.

Three numbers from your bill: postcode, average daily kWh (printed on every bill) and the amount. We cost every plan retailers publish to the regulator for your network at your usage and show where the bill sits, the cheapest plan, and what it would save.

What the check does

Three numbers in, one honest sentence out.

Retailers publish a rate card for every distribution network to the Australian Energy Regulator. We read all of them each night. Given your postcode we know the network; given the kWh on your bill we can cost every plan at your usage; given the amount we can say how many would have cost less and which is cheapest. Nothing is a quote and nothing is promoted: the ranking is estimated cost alone, and every plan links to the retailer and to the regulator's record. See a postcode page or a plan page for the kind of figure you get.

Open pricing means Australians can be better informed, and save more.

Most comparison sites show a fraction of the market: the retailers that pay to be listed. OpenStream prices every plan every retailer publishes to the Australian Energy Regulator and Victorian Energy Compare, 9,624 published offers priced from 40 retailers in the regulator's listings, re-read nightly. Nothing is promoted, every plan links to the regulator's record, and the whole dataset is free to download.
